Glen of Imaal Terriers are still a remarkably healthy breed but, like everything, there are things to be aware of and to maybe look out for. So we suggest you get a cup of tea (and of course a biscuit) and read properly through the HEALTH PAGES.

It never hurts to be forearmed & you'll know what questions to ask. If there is anything you'd like to know more about do not hesitate to contact our Health Coordinator, Alison Seall, on 01403 269038 or via efghealth@gmail.com

The EFG wishes to monitor Glen health and we hope you will consider helping us to do this!  Please take a look at the DNA ARCHIVE and VETCOMPASS to see how your Glen and your veterinary practice can help our lovely breed.  The LIFETIME HEALTH RECORD is a compact booklet for you to record any health events that occur during the lifetime of your Glen.

BREED HEALTH AWARD ENTRANT 2013

The EFG was highly praised for its entry in the INNOVATION category at the first Karlton Index Breed Health Awards, hosted by the Kennel Club at Discover Dogs in November.  Feedback from the judges regarding the Lifetime Health Record (LHR) included:

“Their Lifetime Health Record is truly innovative. Whilst this is a project which is easier to undertake in a small breed, I feel that the group has recognised the importance of monitoring health issues over a number of years, and the paramount importance of veterinary involvement in this.”

AND

“The EFG sets a wonderful example for a numerically small breed. Their idea of a lifetime health record is an excellent one which other breeds ought to follow.”

The EFG entry is summarised on page 10 of the BREED HEALTH AWARDS 2013 booklet.
